Assistent

The HAZET Assistent, the trolley other boxes get measured against

Assistent is the HAZET name for the tool trolley. The 179N body is double walled and welded all round, the corners take the hits through an internal damping layer, and the work surface is sealed so spilled brake fluid stays out of the drawers.

Drawers run on ball bearing telescopic slides, pull out fully, and close themselves. They also lock against each other, so you cannot open three at once and tip the trolley. The cylinder lock sits behind the handle where a key is less likely to snap, and it can be replaced on its own.

To close one: push every drawer in, turn the folding key in the side lock, and the central locking secures the whole column at once. If a drawer refuses to shut, something inside is standing proud of the insert.

HAZET builds torque tools from 1 to 800 Nm. The workshop line, System 5000-3 CT, is the range most people mean when they say HAZET torque wrench.

Why HAZET costs what it costs

The honest answer to the question people type into Google: the tools are expensive because of where and how they are made, and because they are built to be repaired rather than replaced.

Made in the same town since 1868

Around 80% of the range is made in Germany, in Remscheid, where the company started in a forge under the family flat. HAZET even makes the dies used to forge its own hand tools.

Owned by the family, not a fund

Five generations of Zervers have run the business. Nobody has to hit a quarterly number by moving a forging line to a cheaper country.

Sold with its spare parts

Spare parts lists, exploded drawings and datasheets are published per item number. A worn ratchet or a broken trolley lock is a repair, not a new purchase.

From one forge in Remscheid to workshops in 60 countries

HAZET is short for HA and ZET, the German initials of Hermann Zerver. He was 27 when he started the company.

1868

A forge and a flat

Hermann Zerver starts making plane irons, saw setters, hinges and ball locks. The forge is downstairs, the family lives above it.

1874

A house with a smithy

The family moves. The programme grows into door pulls, ball locks and ball joints for mowing machines.

1889

Seventeen workers, four apprentices

Orders outgrow the building. The first staff photograph is taken outside the works.

1920s

The name becomes a mark

HAZET starts stamping its own logo on its tools. Mechanics begin asking for the brand by name.

Thirty years with Porsche Motorsport

The joint Racing Tool Line puts the motorsport livery on tools that are otherwise standard HAZET: the 179NXXL trolley, the 2200SC-2 SmartCase, the 811/6 screwdrivers, the 5122-3CT torque wrench. Same tolerances, different finish.

HAZET questions, answered straight

Are HAZET tools any good?

Yes, and they are held in the same bracket as Stahlwille, Wera and Snap-on by working mechanics. Most of the range is forged in Germany, tolerances are tight, and spare parts are published per item number, so a tool that wears can be repaired instead of binned.

Is HAZET a good brand?

HAZET is a fifth generation German family manufacturer that has been making tools since 1868. It supplies workshops, industry and aviation, and builds vehicle specific tools for Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche and MAN. That is the short version of its reputation.

What is a HAZET?

HAZET is a tool brand, not a tool type. The name comes from the German initials of the founder, Hermann Zerver: HA for H, ZET for Z. When someone says they bought a HAZET, they usually mean a ratchet, a torque wrench or an Assistent tool trolley.

Where are HAZET tools made?

In Remscheid, Germany, at two plants. Around 80% of the product portfolio carries the Made in Germany mark. Plant 1 in Remscheid-Gueldenwerth also develops the forging dies used to make the hand tools.

Why are HAZET tools so expensive?

German labour, German steel and German forging cost more than imported equivalents, and HAZET keeps its production and its die making in house. You also pay for the long tail: calibration certificates on torque tools, exploded parts drawings, and replacement parts that stay available for years.

How do you close a HAZET Assistent?

Push all drawers fully in, then turn the folding key in the cylinder lock on the side of the body. The central locking secures every drawer at once. If a drawer will not sit flush, a tool is standing proud of its foam insert, so reseat it and try again.

What is the HAZET Assistent?

Assistent is HAZET's name for its tool trolleys, from the compact folding classics up to the 179NXXL. Current 179N models have a welded double walled body, self closing drawers on ball bearing slides, mutual drawer locking, and 125 mm castors with braked swivel bearings.
